Connecting with Other Educators
As a teacher, I was often looking to connect with other educators. I found these strategies helpful:
Actions
-
Attend Conferences and Workshops: For most of my teaching career, I attended conferences and workshops that related to my specific position. These events provided opportunities to network with other educators, pariticipated in professional development sessions, and learn about teaching practicies. These conferences included, NSTA (when I taught Science), California Teachers Association (when I taught in CA), and several Adult Education conferences.
-
Online Communities: Many online forms are dedicated to education. Even social media groups have discussion boards. I regularly participated in these forums and groups to share resources and ideas. I manage my own group (set to private).
-
PLN: I build professional relationships with educators from my former college at California State Univeristy. We stay connected online.
-
Local Meet ups: I gather with previous colleages face ot face in my community.
